How long does a routine vision exam take?

You will want to allow about an hour for your routine vision exam. If you choose to stay after the appointment to pick out new glasses, you may be here a little longer.

Is there any paperwork that I need to fill out before my appointment?

If you are a new patient, we do have some paperwork for you to complete, including medical history, general patient information, and a standard HIPAA privacy policy. Completing this beforehand saves time at the appointment and gets you back to see the doctor more quickly. A link with our forms will be sent to you after making your appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

In addition to the completed paperwork, please bring your insurance card & driver’s license with you to the appointment. If you wear glasses or prescription sunglasses, we ask that you bring them as well. If you are a contact lens wearer, please bring your contact lenses and a copy of your prior prescription. Knowing the exact brand and powers makes the contact lens exam easier and more straightforward.

What's the difference between glasses exam and a contact exam?

A glasses examination and a contact lens examination differ in their focus and assessments. During a glasses examination, the
eye care professional primarily determines the refractive error (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, etc.) and prescribes corrective glasses accordingly. In contrast, a contact lens examination involves additional steps, focusing on the fitting and suitability of contact lenses for the individual’s eyes. It includes measuring the curvature of the cornea and determining the proper lens type for comfortable and safe wear. Contact lens examinations also involve education on lens insertion, removal, hygiene, and follow-ups to ensure proper adaptation and eye health maintenance while wearing contact lenses.

Is it really important to get my eyes checked yearly?

Yearly eye examinations play a vital role in maintaining eye health and vision quality. These regular check-ups enable early detection of any changes in vision, allowing for timely intervention and treatment of various eye conditions. By assessing visual acuity, eye movement, and focusing abilities, these exams can detect refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. Moreover, they aid in identifying potential eye diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and cataracts, often before noticeable symptoms arise. Through comprehensive evaluations, your doctor can provide accurate prescriptions, recommend suitable treatments, and offer guidance on preventive measures to safeguard eye health.

I need to order more contact lenses but my prescription is expired. What should I do?

If your prescription has expired, that means it is time to come in for your next eye exam. It’s very important to follow up yearly not just to check for a prescription change, but also to catch any possible complications that may have developed since the last time you were in. Contact lenses are ultimately a medical device, and issues like over-wear and debris build-up can have adverse effects on the health of your eyes.

Yes! As long as your prescription is still valid and you are able to provide us a copy, you can certainly buy your contacts at Amazing Eyes.

My glasses keep slipping down my nose. Is there anything I can do?

Almost always, yes. In most cases, all you need is a simple adjustment! If you have a history of glasses that fall down your face, ask one of our opticians about your options for frame fitting and lens material. Chances are there’s something we can offer to change things up.

What is my pupillary distance (pd)?

Your aptly named pupillary distance is the distance between your pupils. It is a measurement that the labs use to ensure your prescription is centered around the spot you look out of your particular lenses. At Amazing Eyes, this measurement is taken when you order/purchase your eyewear.
